Daily Asset Correspondent Emerges Chapel Vice Chairman In Benue

The Daily Asset Correspondent  in Benue State, Comrade Attah Ede, on Tuesday emerged as vice chairman of the Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue State Council.

Apart from the position of the vice chairman that was keenly contested, all the other executive members emerged unopposed and would remain in office till 2029.

Comrade Attah scored total of 13 votes to defeat the immediate past Secretary of the chapel, Comrade Titus Atondu of News direct who polled 8 votes, while  Comrade Emmanuel Antswen of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) was re-elected unopposed as Chairman.

Comrade Doratthy Aninge of NAN  treasurer, Comrade Scholastica Hir of The Sun newspapers as Financial Secretary and Comrade Cephas Iorhemen of New Telegraph as Auditor secured their positions unopposed.

The election, which was held on Tuesday at the Chapel’s Secretariat was peaceful, free, fair and transparent.

Giving his acceptance speech, Comrade Antswen thanked members of the chapel for renewing their confidence in him and his executive, describing the unopposed re-election as a call to greater service.

Comrade  vowed that the new executive would continue to serve with integrity, transparency and accountability while consolidating on the achievements of its first tenure.

According to him, the chapel leadership would sustain every policy and programme that has positively impacted members while introducing fresh initiatives that will further improve members’ welfare, promote professional excellence and strengthen the unity of our chapel.

He appreciated the electoral committee for conducting a peaceful, credible and hitch-free election, noting that the exercise had strengthened the democratic culture of the chapel.

He assured members that the administration would prioritize the welfare of members, deepen unity, expand training and capacity-building opportunities, strengthen partnerships with relevant stakeholders and pursue initiatives that would benefit members.

The chairman further commended  members for their support over the past three years and acknowledged the contributions of partners and organisations that had supported the chapel’s programmes.

He equally  commanded the Benue State Council of the NUJ for its cooperation and reaffirmed the chapel’s commitment to working harmoniously with the council in advancing the interests of journalism and journalists in the state.

Earlier, Chairman of the NUJ Benue State Council, Comrade Bemdoo Ugber, congratulated the newly elected executive and urged them to work in the overall interest of the union.

Ugber said the successful election should further strengthen the relationship between the Correspondents’ Chapel and the state council.

He assured members that the council would continue to provide effective supervision across other chapels to promote unity, professionalism and progress within the union.

He appealed to the new executives to justify the confidence reposed in it by members through selfless service and commitment to the ideals of the NUJ.
